This year is the 30th anniversary for Simmer Style. It started up as a small local brand on Maui, where the hard charging Simmer founder Malte Simmer built sails with a vision of making the highest performing and most durable sails for Maui conditions, the most demanding conditions around. His brother Klaus joined the quest shortly thereafter as they both committed the Simme r brand name to the ultimate in high performance. This is still our mission: to make the best performing and most durable windsurfing equipment on the planet. We started out making sails and have expanded to masts, booms, harnesses, wetsuits and now it is a great pleassure to introduce our range of boards. Does the world need another board brand? Probably not, but we have seen a disappointing development in the board manufacturing industry during the last couple of years, where the price has gone up and quality has gone down. This is a contradiction to everything that we believe in. Our goal is, and has always been, to offer our customers a high performing product, with highest end quality and state of the art manufacturing at a good price. There might not be a demand for another board brand but there is an opportunity for someone to do something different. To respond to this we have set up our board manufacturing in China, using a different technique in the moulding process, with a different lay up from what is normal in the industry. We don’t save on materials, we use the materials that we think are needed to produce a high quality and high performing board, as we do for all our products. Our production methods focus on quality and consistency, rather than trying to make as many boards as possible. This produces a much higher quality product, resulting in a more accurate and consistent shape once the board is removed from the mould, with no need for after finishing. The visionary behind our shapes is the legendary Kai Katchadourian who has worked closely together with Ola Helenius to materialize his ideas. Ola has a PhD in mathematics and is a wizard of curves and surfaces, more than this he is also an avid windsurfer who has dedicated the past 20 years to create an deeper understanding to what makes a wave board work. Needless to say, this is a unique collaboration, where the result speaks for itself. During the past year we have been testing our board designs and constructions world wide, in all types of conditions, the outcome has been extremely positive. So it is with great pleasure that we now release our range, consisting of eight boards, ranging over three models. You will find a board for all types of sailing styles in wave to freewave conditions.
Moving on to our sails. We have re-worked all our wavesails and made them lighter in the areas we think it is needed without sacrificing the durability. This means, more 2 MIL Q-Ply in the top areas, especially along the leach. We also use less double layer dacron from the boom and upwards, among many other things. Basically we use the material where you need it, light material in the top and stronger material in the bottom where you need the reinforcement. Furthermore we have combined Mission and Mission X into one sail, combining all the best features from both sails. Klaas Voget has spent his entire year bouncing around globe testing new prototypes of Blacktip and with his continuous stream of new ideas, we have reworked it into a full-bred super lightweight multi fin wave sail.On the flatwater sails we have also reduced the physical weight in the top half of the sail by using more 2 MIL Q-Ply, also by making the batten pockets tighter in the top 1/3 of the sails, which also create a more precise batten profile stability. As of 2012, the 2XC comes with two sets of cambers which makes it adaptable for both SDM and RDM masts. Futhermore we have a new range of SDM masts, updated graphics for the booms, a new aluminum boom with V-Grip, refined features and materials on our Generator suits and much more.
In your hands you have our 2012 collection of sails, boards, masts, booms, wetsuits and accessories. This is the result of our recent twelve months of research, testing and development, but more than this it is the result of our experience from 30 years as a high-end windsurfing equipment manufacturer. In the history of windsurfing, we have been first with many innovations. The first full batten wavesail, the first monofilm wavesail, the Cyber Race top and the Stretch Control System, only to mention a few.
Just like Klaus and Malte had a clear vision of hardcore performance and durability 30 years ago, we continue in their tradition to bring you the most innovative products, while pushing the limits of performance, quality and reliability. It is our passion.
Thanks for taking part of our windsurfing experience.
Mahalo!
